GéNIA's Masterclass: Breathing and Piano Playing - Myth versus Reality

Breathing is one of the most essential parts of our existence. Without breath, there is no life! And it is surprising how many pianists forget to breathe correctly, or even stop breathing all together, suffering the danger of suffocation.

Apart from that, if you do have a secret knowledge of manipulating your breath, which is fairly well-known in yoga practice, you can use these skills and transform your piano playing.

In this masterclass, GéNIA will offer various strategies on how to use your breathing efficiently, how your breath can help you with stage fright, and how it can help you to play more organically. She will also work with up to three participants individually to demonstrate the application of various techniques. Although the three performance slots for the master class have been allocated, we welcome you to send us an email if you would like to be considered and put on the waiting list. Please send an email to contact@piano-yoga.com with the details of your proposed piece along with its duration. If you are selected, you will be invited to play for up to 5 minutes.

When you join GéNIA’s interactive events, you will be invited to introduce yourself, and say 'Hello,' whilst enabling your video camera and microphone. We understand that it may not be possible for you to keep the camera on for a long time (for example, due to weak connection issues), however, you will be asked to enable the camera at the beginning of the event when you join. If you are unable to do so, we regret that we won't be able to include you in the group and your ticket will be reimbursed. We are introducing these measures purely because we aim to provide a friendly environment for our Piano-Yoga® members and their guests, where they can communicate freely and discuss music and creativity. The disabled video camera produces a 'being watched' effect, and therefore makes other people uncomfortable, as we do not have the chance to get to know the person behind the screen. We hope that you understand this, and accept this policy in good sprit.
